Wise Owl Stain Eliminating Primer white
Introducing the Cadillac of primers! Wise Owl Paint Primer is a safe and effective adhesion and stain remover that works on almost any surface – decks, concrete, walls, furniture and cabinets. Available in four gorgeous colors, here’s a quick rundown:
White Primer: Perfect under whites and light colors.
Gray Primer: Great for mid-tone colors like yellows and reds.
Clear Primer: Ideal for dark paint colors or when you’re worried. (Note: It looks milky white in the can, but dries clear.)
Dark Gray Primer: Best for very dark colors.
Primer is a sealer paint product used to prevent resins or dirt stains (like soot or nicotine) from seeping through to the topcoat or varnish. Primer acts as a protective layer that locks contaminants into the wood and is usually applied thinly 1-2 times before the final finish.
We always recommend using our primer under white or light colors to prevent the tannin in the wood from showing through, as well as for excellent adhesion and durability.
Coverage per liter: Approximately 160 square feet.
Application Tips:
Surface Preparation: Ensure it is clean and free of dirt, grease, dust, wax and chalk. Remove loose or flaking paint by scraping, wire brushing or sanding. Fill all holes, cracks and unevenness.
Mixing: Mix the product thoroughly using a circular, lifting motion until it is uniform throughout.
Applying the Primer: Use a brush, roller or sprayer. For best results with a brush, use a high-quality nylon/polyester brush or roller. Thin with up to 10% water for spray application.
Drying Time: Touch dry in 1 hour and can be recoated in 4-6 hours under normal conditions. Some stains may require two coats and a longer recoat time to dry and seal.
Topcoat Time: Wait 24 hours after painting before applying topcoat.
Cleaning: Clean brushes and rollers with soapy water immediately after painting.
Note:
Priming is crucial if you are painting anything white on old wooden furniture. The tannins in the wood easily bleed through white paints! So clean well and always use a primer before painting. Allow each coat to dry for 6 hours to prevent the tannins from bleeding through. Sometimes a piece may need a third coat.
Wood species known for their tannins include mahogany, knotty pine, and cherry.
Always prime with Wise Owl Primer before applying One Hour Enamel for best adhesion and durability. Cabinets, tiles, and floors should ALWAYS be... primed without exception.
